Mucilaginae: DRACULA

You hear tell of a nearby littoral settlement which has fallen under the hand of an oppressive landlord. As you travel nearer, the rumours become stranger and darker: they say the landlord is a creature of supernatural prowess, predatory, parasitic on the flesh and the very spirit of the people. They say the landlord cannot be killed; they say it crawled from the silt, already ages dead, unnaturally vital. They say the landlord clouds the minds and saps the autonomy of those fed upon. They say the landlord can burst into a cloud of pests and reform into a person; can melt into shadows and become invisible; is capable of violence far beyond the strength of any usual person.

They whisper darkly that the landlord is cosmically horrifying: dry and endoskeletoned. Long of limb, dextrous of jointed finger, bipedal and hairy of head. A terror from deep history: a hominin.
